Research Theme: Validation of ADC accuracy

Background

The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map together with the signal intensity of the lesions observed on diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) provides important information regarding the degree of ischemia.

It is important that the accuracy and reproducibility of ADC is warranted among scanners and institutions so that it can be used as a reliable parameter for selecting a therapeutic strategy for acute stroke. However, to date, no report on the variation of ADC obtained under different settings has been published.

Working program by ASIST-Japan

In order to analyze the variation in ADC values, ASIST-Japan has planned a multi-institutional trial to obtain ADC maps of volunteers by using various MR scanners (12 machines, 5 vendors, static field ranges 0.4T to 3T). Data acquisition for this purpose has been completed and the results will be published in the near future.
